I can’t believe that there isn’t a built in way to rename tags within the Google Reader UI! Shocking.
Quickest way I’ve found is to export your feeds (Settings | Import / Export), edit the XML by hand (fortunately my 100 or so feeds are organised within ~12 folders), delete all of your subs from GReader and reimport your edited XML list.
I wonder if the GReader UX guys are having trouble deciding between Folder and Tag for classification.
Sadly, there are no posts related to this one.
You could also select to Settings:Subscriptions, filter the list by the folder you want to rename, select all and assign the feeds to a new, renamed folder. Then, you can remove them from the old folder. You can then delete the old folder’s tag completely from Settings:Tags.
Yup, that’d work also but i’m not sure there’s much between the two in terms of speed!
I actually just googled this to see if there’s another way but it seems that these are both pretty much the common ways.

Still a bit perplexed as to why they haven’t added this in..
